Squanto

Scrappisode 8 was posted Friday, May 9. It's about the American Indian named Tisquantum. What was recorded of his life was rough and heartbreaking at times. He was obviously a rugged individual, for he still helped the Pilgrims begin the Plymouth colony despite the many mis-treatments from several European sailors.

We have portrayed part of Tisquantum's misadventures in "America Begins #8: Squanto" on Da Scrappy Chihuahua Podcast 2.0. He was one of the quiet ones who do important deeds and usually get overlooked by carnal man because of their misplaced values. If not for Tisquantum, freedom as we know it would not have happened.

Life in Leiden

The remaining pilgrims finally arrived in Amsterdam after being separated from their families for several months. But as a few more months went by, a schism began when Reverend Smyth began leaning toward the teachings of the Mennonites.

Heated arguments and strifes between congregation members flared up. Pastor Robinson decided it would be best to relocate his group of Separatists about 50 miles away.

Almost Killed At Sea!

We continue enacting the events in the lives of the pilgrims in the 6th scrappisode that went up this weekend. The first group of pilgrims who fled England to the Netherlands spent nearly a year without their friends and family that were left behind. In fact, they themselves were almost killed in a vicious storm after they had drifted off course.

The ones who arrived later worked very hard to get there. They suffered jail time, mocking and ridicule, and worked jobs they would not normally choose to do. They humbled themselves before God and man (or in the show's case... dogkind) and refused to change what they believed under intense pressure and circumstances.

Scrappy debates whether or not to disguise his pocket watch as a yo-yo or not.

Separated Separatists

Scrappisde #5 of America Begins is up and running. The families of the pilgrims were separated for much of a year. Several men made it to the Netherlands on a Dutch ship. But the captain decided to abandon their wives, children and some of the other men on shore when he saw the King's soldiers coming to arrest them.

We chronicle the events and you can hear them at the Podcast Machine. We hope you find them entertaining while you learn some #pilgrimfactsonly .

Betrayed!

Scrappisode 4 is posted and accessible. It's aggravating enough being poor and anyone you ask for help under the table charges you what you can barely afford. It's worse when you've gone broke and your hired help sells you out!

"America Begins #4: - Betrayed experiences you through the hardship of people seeking freedom from tyranny. Listen as Granite tells the #pilgrimfactsonly.

America Begins #3 - Scrooby Manor

Scrappisode 3 is posted. "America Begins #3 - Scrooby Manor" shows how the pilgrims were persecuted. They had their doors beaten down, homes vandalized, were thrown in prison, and spied upon among other things.

It's decision time for the Scrooby Congregation. Listen to what determined if not desparate people will do to seek freedom instead of security on Da Scrappy Chihuahua Podcast 2.0.

America Begins #2: Separatist Congregation

We continue with the butterfly effect that led the pilgrims of England to the land of the Americas. This week Scrappy Bradford's new friend teaches him the history of problems with government and it selection of religion for its people. Talk about chaos theory! The church itself was found to have corrupt people steering it! Pilgrims (called Separatists at the time) believed religious choice should come from a person's conscience and not the person's government. Listen how Scrappy Bradford decided to join the Separatists in our 2nd scrappisode.

New Name, New Video

It's here! We've fought through Skype fails, sicknesses, and software issues, but it's here. The video trailer which will be the show's opening on the audio podcast.

We have also changed the name of the show to "Da Scrappy Chihuahua Podcast 2.0". Since this project is done strictly on a volunteer-time basis, we're not making any promises. But hopefully our first new audio show will be posted by the 1st of March 2014.

We're building and constructing. We'll be rolling again very soon on Da Scrappy Chihuahua Podcast 2.0!

Rehearsing

The podcast crew met last weekend and went through rehearsals of the 1st, 2nd and 4th scripts. It was fun as always but more humorous because we all struggled with the British accent. It became hilarious to hear British speak suddenly bleed into Bronxian or American deep South. Why is the British accent important?

Willie Brewster and Scrappy Bradford discuss church
history in  England at Brewster's home at Scrooby Manor.

We will be telling the history of the Pilgrims settling at Plymouth , Massachusetts based on the historical documents and written records and journals left behind by the settlers themselves. We’ll begin recording within the next 2-3 weeks. So tell your friends and share the updates with them. Scrappy’s friends will soon be broadcasting fun in actual times and events!

Relaunching

As you can see, we have updated the blog. We've changed the appearance and theme to correspond with the stories soon to come on our audio shows. Da Scrappy Chihuahua Podcast is still moving forward.

Last November an unfortunate event occurred. The podcast author's home was broken into and his laptop was taken. That wasn't the worst of it. The external hard drive which had all the podcast files on it was taken as well. And no, he can't afford Lifelock every month.

So with the help of one of the crew, a computer and some memory devices are being put to work as we have begun to relaunch the show. Where is it going after Mafia Wars?

During the Skype meetings over the 3 years, other non-MW related ideas came up. These were stories and ideas we thought we would like to try to portray radio-style. It's funny how God works. If the materials hadn't been stolen we might still be trying to grind out stories pertaining to a game fewer and fewer people play and would be familiar with.

So it seemed like that would-be agitating event (well, honestly it was agitating) was a good place to re-position ourselves and shift into a new direction. What should you expect? Well, we still have a script called "Little Red Riding Clem". It's not what you would expect.

Scrappy, Sasha, Granite, Clementine and Pepper will tell bedtime stories to puppies and kittens in a foster home (the city pound) about the Pilgrims coming to America. They'll take the kids and sometimes other people to other periods and show them first hand how certain events in history took place.

A lot of research and study is going into these stories to tell them as accurately as possible. And unfortunately, some of the things being learned are not what we'd like to tell but the facts are there. If they are not told, then how would people know about them? We would be irresponsible to ignore them.

We hope you'll enjoy the stories coming soon. We're not sure exactly when they'll be available yet. A few scripts are written and rehearsals should begin this weekend, so hopefully you can hear them in late February or by March. Thanks for sticking with us, o ye faithful. See you then!
